For many years, in addition to the hands on work as a carpenter and builder, we have consulted on many areas of historic preservation/restoration and architectural conservation. Historic structures perform in a very specific and nuanced manner. As building technology has made tremendous strides, specifically after WW2, historic structures have been subjected to these new materials and methods. Over the last 30 years, I have learned what factors have contributed to a buildings grace and longevity and what factors have led to their deterioration and failures. The biggest offender is trying to force historic structures perform as a newly constructed building would perform.

We focus on all facets of the structure: foundation, water mitigation, roofing, ventilation, insulation, millwork, joinery and exterior finishes.

We can help clients with commercially used historic structures receive state and federal Historic Tax Credits for their preservation based projects.  This is a process that can help the client save long term capital on their large or small project.

Design/Drafting services are something that we can offer, as well.  We have performed several projects where we were able provide full working drawings that include construction documents with structural drawings, finish schedule, cabinets and millwork details.
